We had gorgeous weather and a festive crowd of thousands for our 2012 Tomato Art Festival, easily deemed an organic success! Thanks so much to our sponsors, vendors, volunteers and the many attendees who made the day a wonderful success. We really couldn’t be more thrilled! Check out the photos on our Facebook page and be sure to tag yourself. We’ll continue to add pictures ass they roll in.

Again, thanks to all our tomato-lovin’ friends who contributed to such a wonderful East Nashville event.

We’re counting down the days ’til our 9th Annual festival which will cover several blocks near East Nashville’s Five Points area this Saturday with a variety of fun events and contests including the Tomato 5k, costume contests for people and pets, Tomato Art Show, bobbing for tomatoes, Bloody Mary Competition at 3 Crow Bar, Wet Burrito contest at Nuvo Burrito, Ugly Tomato contest and more.

The following streets will be closed during the event: Woodland between South 10^th Street and South 12^th Street; South 11^th Street between Russell Street and Forrest Avenue; and Clearview Avenue from South 10^th Street to South 11^th Street.

We’re expecting more than 18,000 attendees to come and celebrate the often-debated fruit/vegetable. The day kicks-off at 9 a.m. with a New Orleans style Second Line Parade beginning in front of Bongo Java East followed by a full schedule of music on the Vietti Foods Main Stage including Elmo Buzz and the Eastside Bulldogs, Half Brass, Jessica Rae, Richard DuBois, Rock City Birdhouse and many more.

This unique design — the first official TAF fashion statement to grace the cotton-covered chests of tomato lovers in 2004 — is back by popular demand and available for purchase at the festival on August 11 while supplies last.

Did you know you can seek reprieve from the sun on Saturday and kick back in the First Tennessee Bank VIP area? Well, you can, so long as you get your ticket before we run out.

VIP access includes two drink tickets and a spread of tasty food. The VIP area is located near the Vietti Foods Main Stage for a bird’s-eye view of the day’s stellar entertainment including Elmo Buzz and the Eastside Bulldogs.

The VIP area will be open from 10a-10p. Tickets are limited and all money supports the Tomato Arts Festival. Purchase yours online now and pick them up at 10 a.m. the morning of the festival at the VIP area. We’ll see you there.

A lively tomato mural in East Nashville

Check out this super-cool video of a community activity that we love about as much as a cherry tomato right off the vine. It was bit of a kick-off for the the Tomato Art Festival, and it’s created a quite a buzz about “Tomato Season.”

Awesome artist Andee Rudloff created a community mural for the Tomato Art Fest on the house of a generous donor. Volunteers and neighbors pitched in to paint the mural over the course of several hours. Watch the time-lapse video below to see the all the fun. Thanks to everyone who pitched in to make this happen! (Credits below)

A Bloody Mary bonanza

Think your Bloody Mary concoction is Nashville’s finest mix of vodka, tomato juice and a handful of carefully chosen, secret ingredients? Then you need to enter the Tomato Art Festival’s 3 Crow Bar Bloody Mary Contest by Aug. 5 for a chance to win prizes and the coveted title of “Best Bloody Mary Maker Of All Time”… or whatever you want to tell your pals.

Read the official rules before you submit your recipe.

3 Crow Bar staff will choose 10 finalists from the pool of all entries received and those 10 contestants will be contacted by August 6 and given final instructions for preparation for judging. All finalists must be present at time of judging which will take place at 3 Crow on August 11 during the Tomato Art Festival. Time of judging TBA.

All entries must be made by email via 3 Crow Bar Facebook or bill@3crowbar.com before midnight August 5, 2012.

We love kids!

There are a slew of fun ways for children to be a part of our festival.

We’ll kick-off the Friday evening with a Kid’s Tomato Art Show Opening Reception at YCAP Chapel a wonderful night of sights, sounds and flavors and lots of tomato art. Then, head on over to our Tomato Art Preview Party at Art & Invention Gallery from 6:30 – 9 p.m. Tickets are only $25 and reservations are required, so don’t delay. Purchase your tickets at tomatoartfest.com/tomato-art

On Saturday, we’re also having a children’s Fun Run at 7 a.m. at Five Points at the corner of Woodland and 10th, prior to the adult’s Tomato 5k. Then, at 8:30 a.m., children of all ages are encouraged to dress up in their most festive costume for the Tomato Fairy/Elf Costume Contest in the lot behind Fanny’s House of Music.

Oh, and we haven’t even mentioned the crafty kid’s event at Bongo Java, Family Fun Open House, Pet and Wildlife demonstrations, KidFest and the rest of our kid-oriented fun. Be sure to take a gander at our full list of events.

Once again, the time has come to pay homage to that fabulous vegetable/fruit, the TOMATO!
