Meet the Artist
Dennis Harris
Ever since I was a young boy, growing up in Middle Tennessee, I have loved being outdoors. I loved baseball, hunting, fishing, hiking and just being outside. I had an interest in photography but had never tried painting.
When I went to college, I pursued the technical areas with a degree in Math and Computer Science and later added an MBA. I decided to take an art course at a local Adult Education program and was fortunate to have Marion Cook as a teacher and later as a mentor.
I fell in love with oil painting. I took a few night art courses but really didn't have time to devote to painting until I retired. I am a member of the Chestnut Group of painters and previously the Monthaven Art Society, and the Dare County (NC) Art Council.
I am constantly learning and have benefited from the excellent teachings of artist like Kevin Menck, Frank Baggett and others.
I won many ribbons at County Fairs and the TN State Fair. After I started selling paintings, I was honored to win a Honorable Mention award in a paintout competition at Radnor Lake in Nashville. Recently, I won the "You're So Nashville" award out of over 300 paintings at the Tomato Art Festival in East Nashville.
I paint scenes that I hope will evoke an emotion with the viewer. I love to see viewers of my art, at shows, stop and smile at one of my paintings.
